I came to physical therapy hoping that I could re-learn to breathe and get my running speed back to where it was. I got so much more than that and now I'm doing better than I ever was breathing and running.
After suffering reoccurring episodes of lower back pain, which limited my ability to exercise, do housework and sleep without discomfort, I started physical therapy with Jill. She thoroughly diagnosed the problem and taught me floor and ball exercises to strengthen my core, especially the upper core. My sessions with Jill were very productive and provided me with a plan that I could continue at home with ease. I went from moderate (level 3) pain to being pain free and more active than I was before. It was delightful working with Jill.
I guess being 82 and still able to care for myself and do the work needed to keep my home in good shape is what I would call success.
When we came to see Colleen I was very skeptical that anything could be done to help my daughter. She has been in pain for so long. Colleen was very confidant she could help. Slowly she worked with my daughter; it wasn't easy because this was a bit painful and a lot of work and her being so young she wasn't understanding everything. But she did all the exercises and homework and worked hard, and the results were worth it! She no longer complains about the sides of her neck, the muscles are much more loose and so is the rest of her spine. She can make it through her Tae Kwon Do class without crying. So thank you for your persistence and patience.
When I came here and first started therapy I was really discouraged that I wouldn't be able to run my marathon in 4 weeks. Andrea worked with me and took it week by week and was very encouraging. I could have never improved that fast without her.
I am very happy to report that I no longer have back pain. When I began treatment with Kaite, I was feeling pretty hopeless. I'd seen four chiropractors over several years and experienced no improvement. I spoke with two surgeons. One stated they could do nothing for me and would not recommend surgery. A second surgeon enthusiastically stated he'd be glad to operate. This was not comforting. Kaite patiently and personally walked me through about nine months of physical therapy. She was attuned to my specific back injury and created exercises with this in mind. When the exercises failed to work or I had reactions, she made adjustments in the treatment plan until lasting results were the norm. My back pain was daily for one year prior to physical therapy. After nine months of therapy and continued daily individual exercise at my gym, I have had no back pain for about five months. I am conscious that my back restrictions have yet to allow me to return to playing tennis, racquetball, or other vigorous sports but I am still hopeful. More importantly, my mood and outlook have improved markedly given that my pain no longer invades my days. I'm grateful to Kaite.
Before starting Physical Therapy at Health In Balance I felt like I had to learn to walk all over again. In a sense, I did. I have learned the value of stretching in order to perform certain exercises and movements. I am annoyed at just exactly how many muscles I use in order to accomplish a simple move like standing on my tip-toes. I have a better feel for the role of balance in my day to day movements and activities. I value the knowledge I have gained by going through this process and will continue to practice what I have learned in my daily life. |
