Best Stretches for Pickleball Players Over 40
Pickleball is exploding in popularity around Mequon, WI. But if you’re 40+ and hitting the courts regularly, you’ve probably felt sore shoulders, stiff knees, or tight calves. At Health In Balance Physical Therapy, we help local pickleball players stay pain-free. Here are three stretches to keep you moving.
1. Shoulder Opener Against the Wall
Stand with your forearm against a wall, elbow bent 90 degrees. Rotate gently until you feel the stretch. Great for paddle swings.
2. Standing Quad Stretch
Grab your ankle, pull your heel toward your glutes. Keep your knees close. Helps protect knees during quick lunges.
3. Calf Stretch on a Step
Stand with the ball of your foot on a step and let your heel drop. Prevents Achilles tendon strain.
Bonus Tip: Warm up with light volleys before every match. Cold muscles + quick pivots = injury risk.
